House Keeping

A lovely mild day and so good to see the bees busy house keeping: out on cleansing flights, removing dead and debris, even a few returning with pollen!

Rock n Roll Bees are HEAD-BANGERS!

Apparantly bees bang heads with each other; well at least scout bees from different colonies use this process to decide who can swarm to a particular location (if they both investigate the same place).

Thinking Ahead

Thoughts and ideas for 2012: Polystyrene hives, Zest hive, Geopathic Stress Lines, Arnia (recognising changes in hive frequencies/vibrations).

Early Risers

The clock in the Jimny said 08.34 as i pulled alongside the hives in the field to start checking the fondant but already the girls were busy coming and going, waddling back into the hive laden in creamy pollen. You could think it was still summer but for the yellowing and bare trees in the distance.
There was a mix with some hives having taken down all the fondant previously left for them while others had barely nibbled their blocks. It was pleasing to see them all active and okay.

Still buzzy!

It was a real damp autumnal day today. A lot of the trees in my garden have shed their leaves, which covered the ground as I worked clearing up the bonfire from Guy Fawkes Night. My work led me down the garden near the beehives and the activity at the entrances gave me a good feeling: Loads of creamy coloured pollen laden legs waddling indoors and purposeful take offs heading the opposite way. Magic!
